In honor of my one hundred and one post I have decided to do a Movie Quote game. Well not really, It just so happens that this falls on my 101 post.

Speech and Debate Camp and Research Camp

I just got back from the best two weeks of this summer! My brother Luke, Dad and I all drove up to Colorado to attend the Training Minds Ministries’ Speech and Debate Camp and Research Camp.
The first week was strictly research. We researched 24 hours in 4 days, and learned lots about Russia, Nuclear Proliferation, Iran Sanctions, Soft Power, Hegemony, etc. Needless to say it was long but extremely fun! During this week we created the Blue Book Lite, compiling all the research we did.
The second week started with Interpretation and Platform, the two areas in the Speech Category. Luke and I learned everything about interp. from characterizing, finding a piece, and picking an interp. category. Speech Training lasted a day and a half, then immediately started into the limited prep category.
Technically the 3 limited prep choices (apologetics, impromptu, and exempt) are under speech. Apologetics consist of a 6 minute speech prepared in 6 minutes about an ethical question (there are 100 questions you could possibly get). Impromptu is a 5 minute speech, prepared in 2 minutes, about almost anything! People have gotten anything from paint chips to quotes etc. Exempt is a 5 minute speech, prepared in 30 minutes, about anything (anything meaning they could ask you to talk about anything) political that’s happened in the last 90 days. I chose not to do Limited Prep, because I know I’m not that great at thinking on the spot, but it turns out any form a debate contains some “Limited Prep”.
Once both Limited Prep and Interpretation/Platform camps were done Debate Camp started. Luke and I did team policy debate, which basically means we debate with a partner. And since we’re going to be partners for the year, it worked out really well. We were so overwhelmed with the knowledge we got from the 1 ½ days of Team Policy lectures! There is so much you need to know and do!
The last 1 ½ days we actually got to debate (called a Round Robin). Though we only won 1 out of 4 rounds it was extremely fun and were learned a ton from that practice!
This year I’ll be doing Team Policy with Luke and either Dramatic Interpretation or Humorous Interpretation though I’m not sure whether I will be doing a duo interpretation or not. In the next years’ I may want to try Impromptu or Apologetics.
Luke will be doing Team Policy and Apologetics this year.

Overall we had a blast at camp and I can’t imagine trying to debate without having first had that experience!

My Do Hard Things Summer!

This Summer I decided I wanted to do a hard thing x100. That's right 100 hard things, but since the summers I third gone I decided to do 50 hard things this summer. I'll post them here, probably once a week or so until I reach 50 or surpass it!
Lets get stared:
1) Successfully listed 1 item per day on Etsy for 6 days!
2) Began to run again and loved it!
3) Sewed 3 new Diaper bag all are the same style. I'll be listing them next week

That all I can think of at the moment, though I know there are a few more.

Please excuse the lack of post, my life has been a wavy blur for many weeks now and it won't stop until July! As school finally slows down summer just picks up.
There's sewing, piano, reading, running, etsy, etc. to look forward too! I do want to make a point to post more often this summer, but its on the bottom of the list.

That's what I half expected Seth to say after we found out Prince Caspian had babies! Its very interesting actually. Guinea pigs are pregnant for 60-70 days and really only fill out the last 2 weeks. We knew Caspian was gaining weight but we didn't know why. She had three pretty girls, though we named them before we knew there gender.

Snickerdoodle is a pure mix of her mommy and daddy.

Belated Birthday

This year really did fly. My 14th birthday wasn't too long ago.
It all began with breakfast at Cracker Barrel with Mom and Dad. I fell in love... with buttermilk pecan pancakes that is. So yummy! And their little syrup bottles turned out to be very handy.

Once we arrived home we, well, didn't do much. Later we headed downtown to a park for a picnic.A very small park for a very cold picnic on a bench. Then we tried what was supposed to be a really big and great fabric store. Imagine a giant store with pretty, bright, just filled with isles of fabric and a whole wall of ribbon.

Unfortunately it wasn't like that. It was big and did have a whole wall of ribbon, but it was dark, dingy and as Allison, Luke and I thought about it later seemed more like a thrift store. I still prefer Jo-ann and Hobby Lobby.
So we headed over to Ikea to pick up some storage boxes for my room, it would have been much nicer if I wasn't so tired. Fortunately I got to sleep in the car on the way home.

Once home I tried getting my room somewhat more organized. Then my new bedspread came in! I was absolutely thrilled.
Not too long after that we ate a delicious dinner and then I opened presents, which consisted of: several necklaces and earrings, bobbins, a new watch and some different size embroidery hoops for my sewing machine. And from friends I received: a small needle book, pillow case kit, gift card, purple pin magnet, royalty cuter and scissor sharpener.

It was then that we decided to run to Hobby Lobby to look into some canvas panels to make a bulletin board for my room. It looks great too! Then we decided we'd better run by Hancock to get some fabric to go on the bulletin board and then we decided to try Jo-anns too. So finally we got home around 9 o'clock for cake, which was very yummy.

It was a fun long birthday, although next year I think I'd rather stay home. ;)

Who wouldn't!? They're very handy. Just never wash them. Then don't turn out to great.

Seriously, I've witnessed it!

I desinged a new purse a few weeks ago.
I drew a flower on the front pocket to sew over, and later washed it.

But when I washed it... it turned... SPOTTED! You can imagine my horror as my dad showed me not one but two pens I had placed in the bag earlier to test it out. (and you can imagine my Moms horror when she saw her spotted dyer)

I tried, to very little avail, to remove the dreaded spots but alas they would not leave. I must admit that hairspray worked for a little while but then alas the ink began to set and it was hopeless!
The lesson? Well if you ever ink something use hairspray on it immediately. ☺

The Paisley Handbag

New Design. It has 5 pocket/pouches. One on the outside, one big one on the inside and 3 elastic pouches. I also doubled stitched it all around for look and for hold.
I designed this purse some time back but only tested it a few weeks ago. This is number two. The Embroidery design is called "Peaceful Paisley" which I purchased off Embroidery Library. There will be many more pictures of different things I have/will be sewing in the next few weeks.

Christmas Day each year seems to be a bigger blessing then the last. Of course on Christmas day we woke up (I as usually got up a bit earlier to take a shower) and gathered together to open presents.
I was blessed with a hairdryer with diffuser attachment, several pairs of earrings and a necklace, Up a Pixar Film, Running shoes (which I picked out), a family game called Qwirkle, a pedometer, Cash, special hair towel wrap and a silk pillow case for my curly hair, and lastly the PED-Basic Embroidery attachment!! I was very excited about the last gift (and the others of course) because I can now download new embroidery patterns and load them onto my sewing machine! I have already tested it out and I'm very excited about it all.
Next we worked on making a delicious breakfast and later lunch.We then spent the day playing games and trying out the new "toys".
That evening we finished up our Adornaments, The names of Christ. We do this every year, one of my favorite family traditions.

A few days ago, for a woman's tea, I made mini cake balls for the first time!! They where lots of fun and yummy, although not as yummy as peanut butter balls. I used the recipe off Bakerella. The original recipe was supposed to make 40ish, I believe, but I ended up with 124! Take a peek at Bakerellas site, she has many great recipes and tips!

What a little 'Yes' can do...

So a friend, Caleb, calle.. er e-mailed me up Wednesday afternoon asking if I would be willing to make ONE maybe TWO hats for Reformation Sunday. Little did I know what would happen next... Later Caleb stopped by and dropped of the material and pattern. I immediately got to work. Later I told him I would be able to do both hat, and knowing him he was very happy!

Then guess what?

My sister and I came up with this great idea! The elders needed hats! Unfortunately I told Allison that I only had enough fabric left for 1 or 2 more hats, but that would have to do, and it did. So Pastor Head, the narrator for the Reformation play, got a hat and dad got a hat! Perfect! And so about this time you would think I've gotten really good at making hats right?

Now to continue... Mrs. Head, who was sewing Luke's costume wasn't feeling great and needed some help. Thus after a time I found out that I would be sewing a clergy robe.

Now lets review I made 4 hats, am now sewing a clergy robe and it was Thursday afternoon! When I received the fabric and pattern everything was neatly cut, labeled and marked. I quickly finished the last few things on that hats and got to work on the robe. Fortunately it didn't take long and I had it done, except sewing on the snaps, by that night.

My Mom loved the hats so much that she wanted me to make my little brother, Seth, to go with his costume. (which is really just a robey thingy) I said I would gladly agree but first I needed fabric. So they got me fabric. After cutting out Seth's hat I had enough fabric left for two more hats. Which was great! The only problem was that it was Friday night I needed to make 3 hats, and finish my own dress!

I had planned on going to a conference Saturday afternoon. That was quickly changed. Instead I would stay home and sew 3 hats, my own dress, make pizza for dinner, and help my mom watch my little brothers. It should work, and it did! I'm very glad I did it! It was fun and an enjoyable week!

As one more review, From Wednesday afternoon-Saturday afternoon I made 7 hats, finished a clergy robe, did the last minute details on my own reformation dress, and made a stuffed decorative pumpkin for my mom. (did I forget to mention that?) I would call that a productive week, wouldn't you?

I mean Han and Mace are already in differne centeries and of course Han, who only listens to himself, would drive Mace crazy, but seeing he is a Jedi he is not given to agner, causing him to look for a new roomate. Then he would pick Yoda so to save himself a step he'd pick Yoda.

The Business of Life...

Life has been a whirlwind of activities for that past few weeks, and it will not stop, as least for me, 'til next year! Currently I do not have time to write on a topic of liking, thus I will resort to, hopefully, a short summary of happenings. Last week consisted of a trip to the Zoo, a dash of work on my Renaissance dress (which I will have pictures of next week), preparing and teaching a sewing lesson, much decluttering for the Garage sale we exhibited Friday and Saturday, and an invitation, which of course we happily accepted, to dinner

graciously hosted by a family in our church. I hope I did not miss anything, the whirlwind of activities has gotten me all mixed up. Sunday's are by far the most enjoyable yet the most exhausting days of the week. Sunday was full of fun and started with a sermon from Romans 8:12-13 followed by a delicious lunch where I was able to visit with a young lady in our church. As soon as the kids and young adults finished lunch we quickly changed and walked outside to play soccer. We all enjoyed for an hour or more. Unfortunately we had to leave and after a quick stop at home headed to a Sunday night bible study.

The upcoming weeks will be just as full! Tomorrow I will be doing last minute details on my Reformation dress, along with school and other everyday chores. Wednesday my sister Allison is holding a 'Photo shoot' with me in my completed dress. Friday again is another sewing class, Friday-Saturday my family will be attending a conference, and Sunday is our Reformation Sunday, which I will go into more detail in a future post. I could go on, but seeing my 'summary' is getting lengthy I will cease my ramblings for now.

Well I guess you can say "sewing season" is here! I'll be hitting Christmas presents, fall and winter skirts and dresses, and a few other things. So yes, after reading Jamines post about the Ten Honest Fashion-y Things I decided to make this tag the Ten Honest Sewing-y Things about me. Phew, that's kind of a scary thought!

So to the award Moriah from Growing in his Amazing Grace awarded me with Honest Scrap award. Thank you very much Moriah! I am very honored.

Here are the Rules:

2) Share "ten honest things" about myself.

3) Present this award to 7 others whose blogs I find brilliant in content and/or design, or those who have encouraged you.

4) Tell those 7 people that they've been awarded HONEST SCRAP and inform them of these guidelines in receiving.

1) Sewing is my absolute favorite thing to do with stamping and piano a close second. Its a practical skill and another great way to use some of my creativity!

2) I found out recently that my mom wants me to design and make her a couch cover. That may be a little over my head...

3) Because of my personality type I think I can do more then I really can, in other words I bite off more then I can chew. Like when I was sewing Christmas presents last year for Grandparents and I messed up on all of them; let's not go into detail.

4) I basically get all my inspiration from pictures! I look at tons of different pattern pictures and tutorials take a bit from each and designs my own. With the exception of one of my purse designs where I was half way inspired by a book I had, but mainly designed it myself and this other purse pattern I'm creating.

5) I LOVE ribbon and buttons! Nothing is better than adding ribbon bows and buttons to things I sew. :)

6) In my past 8 months I've made over 600 inches worth of bias tape, and gotten pretty good at it too! Mainly from doing baby shower towels, and considering each one takes about 150 inches and I've made 4 in the past 6 or so months. That's approximately 12 feet per towel, or 48 feet in all. Guess I really should look into one of those bias tape makers. Hmm...

7) I do not like sewing clothes nearly as much as I do accessories. Such as wallets, purses and bags, hair ribbons, baby accessories, etc. Just about anything that's not clothes. Mainly because I have to, what I call, 'edit' the patterns which to me is not really fun. Maybe if I got one of those dressforms. *signs* Maybe someday.

8) I am not a perfectionist but when it comes to sewing I find myself being more of one! I continually tell my sister "Allison they're not going to look at each stitch and notice 'Oh look she messed up on one stitch there'" Half, if not more, of the stuff I make and giveaway, to me, does not look worth giving.

9) I am working with a young girl to help improve some of her basic sewing skills. And while doing this trying to improve my own.

10) You do not want to see my room while I'm in the middle of a sewing project! It's a disaster! When I'm in the middle of something, like a sewing project, I don't clean it up till I'm finished. So my room does not look inviting. While just the other day I was in the middle of making lots of cards, 24 in fact, and around the end my Dad saw my room and said it looked like a tornado and a cyclone came through.

No really I do! And I can prove it!

Seth found out that Teddy Bear day, or what he calls Pooh Day, was September 9. For weeks he had been talking about getting a Pooh for Teddy Bear day and he did. I was sewing for an upcoming baby shower and just happened to be using Winnie the Pooh fabric so mom suggested I make Seth a pooh bag with the extra.

Later, after I had given Seth the bag, I heard him yell "Where's Katie?" then his feet pounded on the floor as he ran up the stairs and across the hallway. As I turned to see what he wanted I was met with a big hug! Now isn't that cute?

Wait there's more...

It just so happened that a few days earlier I was practicing with some pooh fabric on a scrap of towel. As I went down to show mom this idea I had using the scrap I just mentioned I found that she and Dad had gone out.(boy time flies when you sew!). Instead, Seth was standing there asking what the thing was I had in my hand. (It had Pooh on it, so of course he was curious)

This conversation then followed:

Me:"Its for you!"

Seth;"For me! Whats is it?"

Me: "Um... I'm not sure"

Seth;"I'm sure it perfect for... um.. something!"

See I told ya I had the cutest brother!

Oh and there was also the time where he said "I'm scared." Allison replied, "of what?" "Myself".

I have completed my first week of 8^th grade home education. I have disclosed the fact that the first week of school is always the most tedious, however, still exciting. My morning agenda is filled to the brim with book work and P.E. It consisted of Latin of the Christian Trivium, Worldviews of the Western World year III by David Quine, Spelling Power, Video Text Algebra, Literary Analysis, Apologia Physical Science , Shurley Grammar and an Excellent in Writing course concerning essay writing. I then am given a short amount of time to eat lunch before we begin our voice exercises. Following voice is chores, Arts and Crafts with the little boys, and piano, then free time until dinner. My free time is compacted with sewing, reading, computer, and extra piano. I am also given the option that if I desire I may start studying for an upcoming computer DSST test with my two older siblings. This first week of home education has been considerably delightful as I have been able to fill most of my time productively.

Are you a Fan or just plain Obsessed?

Whats the difference between being a fan or being obsessed?

One definition of the word "Obsess" Is: To haunt or preoccupy the mind

Obsession is dangerous. It takes us away from what is important. We think about it all the time, we put it first, we basically pour our lives into this "thing". It in fact becomes an idol, a god. Most of us have been obsessed with something at one point in life. I remember times, and I'm sure my friends do to, when I was obsessed with horses, dog agility and a few other things that sparked my interest. Fortunately my parents were a great help to getting me back on track. The only thing we should be obsessed with is Christ.

Let me point out that I do not think being a fan of something is bad. Being a fan is different from being obsessed. Although we may know about this "thing" backwards and forwards we don't make it the point of our lives. We don't allow it to, in fact, take over our lives for we have more important things in life than it. Note that there can also be different levels of fans. One being a extreme fan, knowing something backwards and forwards, or just a small fan, enjoying something but not taking the time to memorize it or study it in depth. I suppose you know you’ve crossed the line if you can’t give that thing up.

About a week ago I got into the discussion about Obsession vs. Fanship with some close friends. In the middle of the discussion Allison asked "What are some things that are easy for you to become obsessed with?" This is a question I encourage you to think about. Write down some different things that you easily get obsessed with and pray for self-control over these issues. It’s a great time to start challenging yourself.

A Change or Two

Generally when someone creates a blog they do a welcome post or what I like to call a purpose post. They inform you to some extent what their blog is going to be about and what they hope to post, so as to provide you a suggestion of what to expect. In my “history” of blogging I have never done this and I regret it. That is why I am doing it now; but not as you might think. This is not going to be a “Hello and welcome to my blog” kinda post but a quick look at my worldview and what I hope to accomplish in my current blog.
When I took a 3 month computer break I really began to notice the lack of purpose in my blog. I played through my mind what my blog looked like and how purposeless it really was.

Here are 2 things I like about other blogs and that I plan on adding into my own.

I want my blog to be pleasing to the Lord. Mathew 5:16 says,"In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven." . My blog, and everything I do, should not be done me for but for God glory so that He may receive all praise. My sister did an excellent post called Representative of Christ that I would encourage you to read.
I want my blog to be encouraging and meaningful to others. I feel it is important that my blog not only pleases God but is also encouraging to others. All my posts may not fall under that category completely, such as an occasional picture post or tag, but that is my goal.

I hope to apply these things to most, if not all, of my posts. I hope you receive some sort of idea of how I plan on improving my blog.

Rose Emporium

Here are those pictures of the Rose Emporium I promised you in my Bluebonnets post.
The rosebud was taken outside Bluebell Creameries. I also mentioned that I might write something about the occasion but I found I really don't have anything to say. So the pictures will have to suffice.

Note: I just wanted to give a quick up-date. Yesterday night I came down with a temperature of 102 , sore throat and head ache. Its not a big deal, we all get sick, but this was a really bad week for me. I really need to be well my Friday so I can finished up some stuff for Saturday and Sunday. Thus I probably won't post again till the middle of next week. Thanks for your patience.
